Band News
4/20/2000
The new CD ("The Falling Kind") has been released. I know
it's available at a few record shops in New York City, but I don't know where
else yet. I'll find out soon.
2/28/2000
The new CD is to be named "The Falling Kind" and will be released
in April. I'll get some clips and cover art up ASAP. The band
has finally found a new bass player and drummer and have been getting
them familiar with the material so maybe well start seeing more show dates.
It's been too long for me!

The new album is in the can. Things are moving pretty
slow right now for various reasons, but I just acquired some RealAudio
encoding tools so I'll be putting up some RealAudio versions of a couple
of songs off the new album pretty soon. The album doesn't have a
title yet.

The web site has been moved to semi-gloss.com which becomes
the official band web site! We'll be getting clips from the
completed album and more pictures.

The new album is done. It doesn't have
a name yet, and will be released around early summer. They still
have to do cover art and packaging, then deal with distribution.
I haven't heard it yet, but will soon. I'll keep you posted. Jordy
is heading back to NYC in a couple of weeks to do some shows and work with
Angela Strachan (head of Dirt Records) on the release.
Lem Jay Ignacio has become a frequent guest band member.
He'll be playing keyboards when he can join them onstage and is featured
on the new album. You can hear him on the KCRW RealAudio interview.
Welcome Lem Jay! I've seen him play a guest shot with the band last
year at Luna Lounge in NYC. He sounds great with the band!

LA radio station KCRW has posted the Semi-Gloss
interview/performance on their "Morning Becomes Eclectic" show.
Click here to listen to it online in RealAudio.
If this link doesn't work because KCRW moved it, then
go to www.kcrw.org, click on the "Morning
Becomes Eclectic" program, the look for the Feb 18, 1999 Semi-Gloss interview.
Unfortunately, it seems like the conversion to RealAudio had some problems
because there are sections of some songs missing, creating odd transitions
and the last song is cut off. They play 7 songs: "Stephanie's Boy",
"Late Night Stroll", "Passerby", "Mystery", "Brand New Day",
"Tiny" and "Bossa Nova".

The band is in the studio with producer Paul
Dugre and recording is going full bore. They have the help of some
great guest musicians this time and Jordy is excited about the results.
Drums are being handled by Joey Waronker from Beck; Danny Frankel
(from Jewel/Fiona Apple) is doing percussion, Lem Jay Ignatio is fantastic
on keyboards, and they're also adding some cello. You can tell
by the additions that the Semi-Gloss sound is expanding a bit, but the
feeling remains the same.
The band is getting some airplay on LA's famous alternative
station, KCRW, and doing an on-air performance Thursday, February
18th on the "Morning Becomes Eclectic" show. These sessions are usually
saved in RealAudio format on the KCRW website at www.kcrw.org.

The band laid down the basic tracks for the new
album from mid-December almost to Christmas. They came back to New
York for Christmas. Jordy reports that the recording is going very
well and the band is having a great time in the studio. Most of the
band is back in LA now laying down the final tracks (vocals, guitars, fills).
After that comes mixing and mastering. Look for a great album (unnamed
so far) to show up somewhere around early summer.

Jordy is back in New York so the band can get
ready to do the next record. The band will plan and practice for
a couple of weeks, with one gig thrown in, then they all go to LA to do
the recording. The CD will have a tentative late spring 1999 release
date. I'll put some demo clips from the new album up on the website
as soon as I get the time.
11/7/1998
Jordy is back in New York for a couple of days
to play in the CMJ Music Festival. It's 4 days, 4 nights, 60 clubs,
1000 bands. Then back to LA for a while.
9/6/1998
Jordy is taking a hiatus in Los Angeles for a
while so there are no planned gigs for the near future. The band
is finally due to begin recording their next album soon, but there is still
no fixed recording date. The recording may happen in LA, but who
knows? Hurry back Jordy!
The next album is untitled as of yet, but it's going to
be a good one. I've heard the demo CD for this album and the band
is really coming together. The mostly new tracks are smooth and sweet
and beautiful. As usual, Jordy writes most of the tracks, but this
album includes a wonderful piece called "Careless" by Verena and Greg.
You're going to love this album!
